Pickleball is the easiest racquet sport to start. The court is small, the ball is slow, and the paddle is light. Most people are rallying within fifteen minutes. Here is exactly what your first hour at The Pickleball Arena looks like.
Before you arrive
Wear sports shoes with grip and clothes you can move in. That is the whole list. Paddles are free at reception, four per court, and balls are RM10 each if you want your own. Book a court on Courtsite or just WhatsApp 012-746 2872.
If you are coming alone, say so when you book. Weekday mornings and evenings usually have players happy to make up a four.
Minutes 0 to 15: the serve
The serve is underhand, below the waist, and has to land in the box diagonally opposite. That is it. No overhead, no spin needed. You will get it in the box on your third or fourth try.
Minutes 15 to 35: the dink
Stand at the line seven feet from the net, the kitchen line, and push the ball softly over so it lands in your opponent's kitchen. This slow game is the heart of pickleball. Beginners love it because nobody can hit a winner off a good dink.
Minutes 35 to 60: play
Games go to 11, win by 2, and you can only score on your own serve. Your first few games will be messy and you will still want to play more. Everyone does.
After
Burger Houz is next door. Most first-timers book their second session before leaving the carpark.
If you would rather have someone show you all of this, Coach Johnson runs beginner sessions on our courts every week. Ask at reception or message us.
